Salutes from California

From Monrovia, California

Gail Heath is an experienced author, illustrator, and storyteller who visited Mayflower School to share her heart-warming stories. She has published several endearing childrenıs books, including "Inside Me, Sometimes" and "No Time for Fishing".

While visiting Mayflower, Ms. Heath read her stories and engaged the students in lively conversation about the writing and editing process. She answered questions, discussed how she came up with ideas, and described what itıs like to be an author. The children were fascinated to learn that the main character in "No Time for Fishing" was based on Heath's own son, nicknamed Jeeper.

Being both an author and an illustrator, she was able to focus on telling the stories using the visual elements she created in the illustrations. She has proven experience relating to children, based on 32 years in the classroom.  Using fishing poles and other props, she was able to draw the students into the stories, invite them to ask questions, and encourage them to learn about writing children's books.

Ms. Heath's visit was an exciting event that encouraged creativity and inspired children to want to read, write, and learn more about the writing process. Parents and students alike enjoyed the evening and appreciated the time we spent together. Thank you, Ms. Heath, for an interesting and educational evening. We look forward to your next visit!
